Environmental Stewardship

The Missouri American Water team is committed to protecting the environment, and to finding ways to use our most precious resource wisely. As we work to provide water and wastewater services to our customers, we also work to prevent pollution, promote sustainability, and enhance the natural environment.

We have a consistent history of meeting and in many cases, surpassing the standards set by environmental laws and regulations. In fact, this is the foundation on which we build our environmental performance. We strive to exceed the environmental expectations of our stakeholders and establish new benchmarks by which others in our industry will be measured.

In Missouri, we are the only water utility recognized with Partnership Status in the Missouri Environmental Management Program. This DNR program recognizes businesses that commit to and deliver outstanding environmental performance in their daily operations.  Missouri Business featured our program in their 2008 edition as a model for other environmentally-conscious organizations.

We also work to protect our watersheds and the rivers and aquifers that serve as our source waters. Our Brunswick and Mexico operations have been honored for their source water protection programs.

Across the state, we partner with a variety of organizations that work to enhance the environment. From supporting Mexico Missouri's household hazardous waste collection program, to enhancing wildlife habitat with the Missouri Bird Sanctuary to working at Operation Clean Stream cleanups -- we demonstrate our environmental commitment everyday.

We are stewards of the communities we serve, and we are proud of the role we play in protecting the environment.
